Scripture: Exodus 3:1–5; 13:20–22; Acts 2:1–4
“A pillar of fire guided Moses and his people as they traveled by night – a sign of God’s constant presence. In the Book of Acts we read about the tongues of fire that moved among the crowd at Pentecost when the Holy Spirit came upon the apostles.” –Curt Ankeny, Fruit of the Vine
Query: How have you been touched by the Spirit? or how do you experience God’s presence?
Last Day of April
Yesterday I was asked
how I soften my heart
as though this was the desired state.
I agree with the premise
because my heart is rough and dry with scars
and does not feel as useful
as it did in other decades.
Let’s assume I have a decade left,
maybe two if my cranky body
lingers longer than advised.
This soft-hearted premise
I welcome still,
more interested in the possibilities of joy
than frightened by the surety of grief.
Today I soften it with words like prayer:
Soften heart.
It’s OK.
I’ll be right here with you
through it all.
