This Day: Visit us each day for a contemplative experience – an image, a Scripture reading, a quotation from Fruit of the Vine, a query, and a poem-prayer. On Saturday each week, we will feature an excerpted Quaker testimony. On Sunday each week, we will offer a Scripture reading, historic Quaker quotation, questions for consideration, and a personal essay from the Illuminate lesson for that week.

Scripture: Deuteronomy 11:18–21

“Our legacies are much like investment accounts. Words and actions, even the small ones, become deposits for the future.” –Flo Harvey, Fruit of the Vine

Query: Are you leaving a rich, spiritual heritage?

Scripture

Body is revelation,

Holy Scriptures.

Tree, my spine, is genealogy.

I climb it, contemplating

the psalm of my voice.

The genesis of nails.

The apocalyptic entrance and exit of food.

The apostolic filters of my heartbeat,

the gospel truth of blood.

The books of my bones are historical,

and hands and feet prophecy,

lungs are spirit,

eyes and ears the Song of Songs.

May I reverently read these Scriptures,

may I never tire of this book of life.

–Carol Bialock, Coral Castles
